Citizen's Police Academy

The Truro Police Department concluded its 2023 Citizens Police Academy (CPA) that began on February 1.

A CPA is five-week program held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Truro Public Safety Facility. Broadly, it is an interactive course that explores a wide range of law enforcement topics and is designed to provide information about the inner workings of the police department. A Citizens Police Academy offers an excellent opportunity to reinforce partnerships, gain some “hands-on” experience, and learn about the intense training that officers and dispatchers undergo.

The program includes police station tours, ride-along opportunities, and interactive discussions on criminal investigations, departmental programs, law and procedure, the courts, Massachusetts police reform, training and equipment, the dispatch process, mental health response, traffic enforcement and crash investigations, and many more areas. Classes are condensed versions of common police academy subjects, with the goal of providing a look behind the station’s walls.

The Truro Police CPA is available to full or part-time Truro residents, town employees, board and committee members, and local business owners. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and classes can accommodate up to 15 participants.

Questions about the course can be forwarded to Chief Jamie Calise at jcalise@truro-ma.gov
