Domestic Violence

Abuse happens among all groups of people regardless of income, education, occupation, race, religion, age, or sexual preference. Abuse can occur in any relationship. An abuser can be a partner or lover, boyfriend or girlfriend, caretaker, roommate, relative or friend. Any forceful controlling behavior is abuse. You do not have to be hit to be abused. Taking away your money, controlling where you go and what  you do, making you feel bad about yourself are all forms of abuse.

The Officers of the Truro Police Department are well trained to appropriately respond to and handle all domestic calls within the guidelines of the Family Abuse Law. This includes providing a safer environment, assisting with medical services, obtaining Abuse Prevention Orders, and directing those persons involved to specialized agencies for further support. There are cellular phones available for victims of Domestic Violence. These phones are preprogrammed to call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
