The four Outer Cape Towns have jointly purchased 7,500 COVID-19 rapid antigen tests and will distribute the test kits this week. The test kits will be available in Truro for Truro residents at a drive thru distribution clinic at the Truro Community Center at 7 Standish Way in North Truro on Thursday, January 13 from 2-5 PM. Proof of residency will be required. Please bring a driver’s license, a tax bill or a utility bill in your name at your Truro address.
At-home Antigen testing has become an important tool for rapid detection of potentially infectious individuals and reduces the chances of spreading the virus. The sensitivity range of most point of care antigen tests coincides with the amounts of SARS- CoV-2 virus observed during the infectious period of most individuals. Many of these tests deliver results within 15 minutes which addresses the concerns about the resulting delays of PCR testing.
Antigen tests can be used regardless of symptoms or vaccination status, but they must be used properly. Many test kits, such as those procured for the Outer Cape are packaged with 2 tests per kit. This is to advance the serial testing strategy of testing with higher frequency, with at least 24 hours but no more than 36 hours between each test. Most importantly, the users of these test should understand that the test will capture only a specific moment in time and does not predict the future.
PCR TESTING
PROVINCETOWN: Stop the Spread testing site at Provincetown Town Hall Auditorium. Free PCR testing each Thursday from 10 AM to 2 PM. This is a walk-in clinic, no appointment required (For elevator access use the Bradford St rear entrance).
ORLEANS- Barnstable County Health offers free PCR testing at the Orleans DPW on Tuesdays, from 9 -10:30 AM. Located at 40 Giddiah Hill Road. This is a drive thru. No walk-ins. Pleasemake an appointment at https://orleansdpwcovidtesting.timetap.com/#/
HYANNIS: Stop the Spread testing Site at Cape Cod Melody Tent, Hyannis: This drive-through has free PCR testing each Monday 9 AM to 1 PM, Tuesday 1 PM to 6 PM , and Wednesday 9 AM to 1 PM.
