We’d like to thank our community for your overwhelming participation and unprecedented turnout at Special Town Meeting on 11/28/23. Truro Central School quickly reached its legal capacity limit resulting in safety concerns. At the urging of the Fire Chief due to building capacity limits, the Special Town Meeting was continued by Town Meeting voters until 5/4/24 at 10:00 am pursuant to G.L. c.39, §10. Per Fire Code (CMR 780), the Fire Chief has the authority to cancel an assembly if it exceeds the building’s legal capacity. A preliminary motion to continue to a date in February failed. Kristin Reed, Town Meeting voter and Select Board Chair, then put forward a second motion and Stephanie Rein, Town Meeting voter and Select Board member, seconded, which passed by a majority vote of town meeting. The town is in the process of identifying an outdoor location in Truro so that we ensure all voters have an opportunity to participate at the continued Special Town Meeting.
