Flu Clinic-Friday October 15th 9am-11am Truro Community Center

Why get your FLU Shot?

The best reason to get your flu shot is to protect yourself and others from getting sick. The seasonal flu vaccine can reduce the chances that you will contract the flu but can also reduce the severity of illness if you do get sick. Influenza vaccines change every year and are designed to respond to what researchers at the CDC determine will be the most common influenza viruses we will encounter in the upcoming year.  The flu season runs from October thru May.

We are offering our annual vaccination clinic at the Community Center at 7 Standish Way on October 15 from 9AM-11AM.

We hope that everyone takes advantage of the opportunity to get vaccinated, either at our clinic, through their doctor, or at the CVS, especially if they live with someone who is at high risk for complications.

Children younger than 5 years old are at higher risk for flu-related complications. A seasonal flu vaccine is available to children from the age of 6 months and older. Infants up to 6 months are especially at risk, which makes it even more important for parents and caregivers to be vaccinated, to protect them.

Adults 65 and older are at higher risk to have complications from the flu, and there is a flu shot for older adults, which is a high dose vaccine licensed only for individuals who are 65 years and older. We will have this type of vaccine for our clinic.

High risk conditions include asthma, heart disease/stroke, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, cancer and HIV/AIDS.

Individuals with disabilities and those from racial and ethnic minority groups experience higher rates of severe illness from the flu.

Pregnancy increases the risk of complications from the flu for both the mother and her baby, and getting a flu shot (not the nasal spray) protects a pregnant mother while she’s carrying, and she can pass the antibodies on to her baby, so they are protected as well.

Getting vaccinated is your best protection, but you can also protect yourself and others by practicing good hand hygiene, chambering your cough or sneeze, avoiding the urge to touch your eyes, nose or mouth and most of all to stay home if you’re sick!

We hope that you stay healthy this fall!

See you at the clinic!
