Cemetery Commission

Overview

The Cemetery Commission is an elected board that cares for and manages the public burial grounds in Truro. Burial in a Truro cemetery requires a permit (there is no fee). To request a permit or to inquire about the purchase of a cemetery plot, please contact the Commission.

General Information

In accordance with the Charter passed at ATE, April 22, 1992, Chapter 6, Section 3, Para. 1 (d), the following body shall be elected.

The following is a listing of all known burials in the various Truro Cemeteries. Note: these indexes show all purchased cemetery plots. An 'N' next to a name indicates that the plot is not yet occupied or was a non-burial. The number in the 'BURIED' indicates the number buried in that plot.

Burials-
All burials-traditional or cremation-require a permit from the Cemetery Commission. There is no charge for a permit. Please review the information needed on a Sample Burial Permit here
To request a burial permit, please email the deceased's information to the Cemetery Commissioner at truro.cemeteries@gmail.com 

Lot Purchases-
Residents of Truro may purchase a cemetery plot in a town cemetery.
Lots are available at Old North, Congregational, Methodist, Sacred Heart, and New South.  Snow and Pine Grove are sold out except for one private sale lot available in each cemetery.

General Information-
Cremated remains (ashes) must be buried in a purchased lot. (They may not be scattered in any cemetery.)
Cemeteries are open to the public 365 days a year from dawn to dusk.
Green or natural burials are currently available in the Natural Burial Area of Old North Cemetery.  A dedicated natural burial cemetery is expected by 2027.
