PRESS RELEASE - Annual Town Election Recount

May 17, 2023 (Truro, MA) – The Town of Truro received two recount petitions with respect to the final tallied vote on the Community Sustainability Package (Question #2) on the Annual Town Election Ballot on May 9, 2023.
 
One recount petition was filed on May 16, 2023, and the other on May 17, 2023. Both petitions were certified, and legal notice was provided to both petitioners in accordance with Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 54, Section 135. Additionally, the town has posted notices online and within Truro Town Hall to ensure that the public is aware of the recount.
 
The recount will take place on Monday, May 22, 2023, at the Truro Community Center. The blocking of the ballots will begin at 9 a.m. and the recount will begin at 10 a.m. There will be four (4) teams of two (2) people – one person will read the vote and the other will tally the vote. There will also be one (1) master tally clerk, one (1) minute taker, and two (2) runners. Results from the recount will be posted on the same day.
 
For those interested in the recount process there will be a public viewing area, also known as the observer area.  Only authorized persons such as the petitioner and their agents, as well as recount workers, will be permitted to enter the recount area.
