Open Space and Recreation Plan 2023 Survey

Open Space Committee

The Truro Open Space and Recreation Plan, last revised in 2015, is being updated to document the status of the town’s open space and recreation resources, assess needs, determine goals, and set an action plan for achieving them. In conjunction with the Truro Local Comprehensive Plan, this document will help guide the town’s understanding of, and approach to, open space and recreation resource management and protection.  An updated plan, if approved by the state, affords the town eligibility for certain targeted grant funding opportunities through the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services that will help support open space purchases.  Open Space and Recreation Plans must be developed in conformance with the requirements of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Division of Conservation Services requirements. The town has contracted Helios Land Design, the local environmental consulting firm that completed the 2015 revision, to collaborate with the town to prepare the 2023 update.

An initial step in the update process is to solicit public input via the distribution of a survey form and request public comments at advertised public meetings. Public input is vitally important to help assess current attitudes, efforts and needs to define open space and recreation goals.  These goals will guide the definition and implementation of specific actions.
