PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 21, 2022

Old County Road/Eagle Neck Creek Project Update

Early September it came to our attention that the wingwall end posts shifted following the initial installation. To correct this issue and ensure stability and longevity to the area, new plans were submitted and approved to include concrete footing for each end post backed with steel sheeting and additional concrete backfill.

This installation process takes about three-weeks to complete before final touches can be made. Truro DPW Director, Jarrod Cabral estimates the roadway and bridge will be REOPENED BY OCTOBER 11, 2022. Over the next few weeks crews will be working steadily to complete the guardrail installation, paving, and line striping.

Despite the additional cost for the unexpected change in design (totaling $170,000 with the town’s portion coming in at $42,500), the town will remain under the overall budget saving approximately $373,125. Additionally, we are pleased to announce the United States Department of Agriculture has agreed to fund 75% of the unforeseen cost, and the state’s Division of Ecological Restoration will cover design flaws related to the Dept. of Transportation’s portion of the project.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: The jobsite walkthrough has been rescheduled for Monday, October 17 at 11 a.m., during low tide. This new date will allow our several funding partners to participate in the walkthrough and give the public a chance to meet the many hands at work behind its completion.
