Tuesday Talk: "The Great American Songbook"-CANCELLED

Presented by John Whelan, host of the WOMR radio show, “American Pie”, the Great American Songbook, is the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century.  These popular and enduring songs were created for Broadway theatre, musical theatre and Hollywood musical film between the 1920s and 1950s and are often referred to as “American standards”.  He will focus on some of the great composers of popular songs such as Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Cole Porter.  Mr. Whelan has been offering this program for the past 11 years at the Snow and Eldridge Libraries.
