Fiscal Year 2008 ASSESSMENTS AND TAX BILLS
VALUES: The Fiscal Year 2008 property valuations represent 100% of the fair market value on January 1, 2007.
OWNER: Taxable property is assessed to the record owner on January 1, 2007.
TAX RATE: The fiscal year 2008 tax rate is $4.49 per thousand dollars of valuation. The Community Preservation surcharge is an additional amount, calculated each year by multiplying the total Real Estate tax by 3%.
TAX BILLS: The first half fiscal year 2008 tax bills were mailed January 4, 2008 and were due on or before February 4, 2008. Since fiscal year 2008 is a revaluation year, and since the revised property values and tax rate were not yet approved by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, the first half bills were “preliminary” and requested one half of the total tax due last year, minus any abatement or exemption that was granted. The Department of Revenue certified property values on March 31, 2008 and the tax rate on April 2, 2008. The second half “actual” tax bills were mailed April 22, 2008 and payment is due May 22, 2008.
ABATEMENTS: Abatement applications for fiscal year 2008 must be filed with the Board of Assessors and must be received or postmarked on or before May 22, 2008.
